Fishing between Milnerton and Melkbos
« on: September 09, 2008, 05:48:58 PM »
Thanks to all those who did add to this post with good info but as you are aware the site crashed and all that great info was lost so please put info back on re spots, conditions etc.If anyone can google earth all the spots between these places with their names it would be great as I'm sure that there are many of us who don't know all the names of these places and i personally would like to catch fish their as i live in the area and if you can remember my question was do people catch fish in these areas as i have not caught a fish here for 18 years. Also i want to say this is a great site and hopefully i will eventually go from newbie to senior one of these days.It would be great if this was based on fishing as apposed to posts but still a great site.

I have only seen fish coming out in melkbos at the slipway and in front of the holiday house just before you come in to Melkbos.

The one thing about this place is that if the wind has not blown right for two or more weeks there are no fish here.
Melkbos has loverly baits for free.
Wonderwurm, redbait, and red crabs.
JESUS!!!

other nice spots up that way is a place called haak gat, it's just before holbaai (across the golf estate entrance) as you come from blouberg side. I have pulled one or 2 steenies there. Take lotsa tackle if you fishing from the rocks though. Kreeftebaai is a good spot, but as mentioned in this topic before the wind has to be right. Howling NW for atleast a week and then 2 days SE to clear up. holbaai in itself is a strange spot. best time to go is after some storms have washed the beach clean and creates a HUGE gully/ sandbank just behind the surf. On a nice clear day you only have to cast about 50m or so to get behind the surfline. Bontkop, ask mike, he's the man as he IS the ONLY person that EVER catches something there. there is another spot in melkbos, not sure what it's callled. It's down in 1st ave (where the firestation is), there are flats there and infront there is a stormpipe, head up towards the beach as if going to bontkop, about 200m or so, the kelp will start clearing up a bit, that's the spot. another spot, that fishes difficult, is at the sout river mouth. ( it's the parking area at the ONLY bridge in melkbos. On low tide, if you look to the left of the mouth of the river, you will see a reef, now if you can cast that far ( 120m-140m) you should get something. Not caught anything there personally but i've seen gallie, hottenton, and kob come out there. again, go after a storm when the rocks have washed open and gullies are created around them. hope this helps a bit guys, i'm at work now, got a dial-up connection here, but when i get home i'll try to put some google marks up! ( how do you do that?!?!)
Going to Mtunzini on the 26th of Dec! WOOT! Rays, Skates, Guitarfish, Blacktips, Zambezi's ARRRRR, where does it stop!!! Simply cannot wait!
