Bass/Carp fishing in the Durbanville area
« on: March 31, 2010, 02:17:10 PM »
I've read a few posts on fishing in this area i.e Willowbridge, Sonstraal Dam etc.  There is some rumours that fishing is not allowed in these dams anymore.  I don't know ??? These posts seem to date back to September 2009 and I'm not sure whether this ruling still stands for these dams.

Also seen many posts regarding guys who are looking for some place to fish bass.  I know about fischerhaven at bottelary, but is there no other spot in the durbanville/brackies area?

Please guys, can anyone shed some light for this newbie :swim:

Have a great fishing weekend...

Hi JD,

The Nothern Suburbs is very limited in places to go for bass fishing specifically. Appart from fisherhaven and the odd private farm dam here and there you can try Hillcrest for a bass fishing excurtion as well Wiesenhof near Paarl ( I don't know if they still stock). The nice thing about these 2 places is that your bring the wife and kiddies with for a outing.

I am sure some of the other guys knows more and are more than willing to share their wealth of knowledge.

Hi JD,

I know of 3 dams in the Northern Suburbs containg bass and carp where fishing is still allowed. 1) Door De Kraal - open from October - April. 2 & 3) Located in Vierlanden, Durbanville in Boland street. Drive North with Boland street and you will find first the one and then the other dam on your right.

Door De Kraal is a difficult carp dam, but the other two are easier but with smaller carp. All three are good for bass and the bass are "catchable". Meaning, I get them caught LOL and if I can catch the bass in a dam then it's an easy dam!
Catch and Release has nothing to do with conservation, but everything to do with respect.

Appreciate it!  That's great, I'll certainly give those dams a go.  I've been dying to go for some bass fishing :woo_hoo:

You guys got any fishing plans for the weekend?

I have Green Pumpkin Brush Hogs and Green Pumpkin Fat Albert Grubs and a Rapala Skitterpop. If I don't get fish on any of these then I simply don't get bass that day. It's very rare that I don't get at least 1 bass.

I'm planning to go do a quick recce of J Dam and S2 on Sunday, but that's still a plan...

I normally use the ordinary "worm" so to speak or "curly tail" in junebug or watermelon seed or pumpkin seed.  just bought myself some "mini bass" lures the other day.  Still wanna see what that is gonna deliver

Hallo G

waar kry jy hierdie make?  Ek vang met "Yum" en so ander rooi pakkie wat se naam ek om die dood nie kan onthou nie.  Die "rooi" pakkies gaan vanaf so R39 tot R59.  Hoe vergelyk dit met Yamamoto?

Hallo G

Was gou-gou Fishing Specialist toe oor lunch.  Het toe daar van die outjies gesien, en ja hulle is so bietjie duurder.  Maar soos jy sĂȘ, mens betaal vir kwaliteit!

Het deur CTF opgetel jy gaan so bietjie gooi daar by Strandfontein(Weskus), geniet man!  Ek gaan more bietjie na die groot dam toe daar by Melkbos...daar is so gaatjie wat ek en Scratchy wil gaan try.

Stywe lyne!
